You must choose a cutter designed for the material and cutting setup: wood cutters are used in making wood plugs, the carbide-tipped are designs for durable performance in appropriate applications. These two plug cutters focus mainly on wood, and have a specialized tapered set which is designed primarily for repairing solid-surface materials and also on wood. The Timberline 1/2" tapered cutter is intended for smooth wood plugs, while the Amana solid-surface repair set is designed for repairing holes, gouges, and defects in solid-surface material. when selecting a plug for a repair always select the closest match of material or grain pattern for a perfect look.
