Choose a diameter that matches the hole or fastener you need to conceal; a close fit helps create a neat, secure-looking repair. Matching the grain type with the same grain type plug will hide the xxxx for a flawless finish. The sizes include 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", and 5/8", giving you options for small fixes and larger holes. The plug cutters I use in my shop are the Timberline 1/4" straight cutter for smaller plugs, and the Timberline 1/2" straight cutter and Timberline 5/8" straight cutter cover larger holes and hardware. Having several sizes available, aloows my shop to choose a size suited to your project and the expected outcome of my customer. Remember you only get one chance to impress them and a happy first time customer is a return customer with referrals.
