Drill bit finishes and coatings improve performance by reducing friction, increasing wear resistance, and protecting against heat.and in my shop I use them non-stop so this is important to me. Black oxide, found in the Timberline 611-520, enhances wear resistance. Titanium nitride coating, as in the Timberline 616-113, significantly extends tool life and allows for drilling at higher speeds by minimizing heat buildup. Chrome finishes, like those on the Fisch FSF-364740 Set, provide corrosion resistance and smooth drilling. Having a variety of coatings available, lets me select the best option for the job I'm doing and desired longevity.
