The number of flutes or wings on a router bit impacts the smoothness of the cut, chip evacuation, and cutting speed. Having more flutes gives you a smoother finish and are great for fine work, while fewer flutes gives you faster chip removal and are great for roughing or heavy cuts. Most solid surface router bits feature two flutes that gives you a balanced precise cutting speed and finish quality. For instance, 57128 and 57154 which I use in my shop gives me a reliable cut using the two flute design.. Having a wide range of flute counts ensures I can select a bit that matches my customers desired finish .
