Always consider the number of flutes or cutting edges because it impacts chip removal, surface finish, and feed rate. Fewer flutes (such as a single flute, as in the 51411-K) provide better chip clearance and are ideal for soft or sticky materials like plastics. More flutes (like two-flute bits found in the 46170-K) produce smoother finishes and allow for higher feed rates in harder materials. The flute count depends on the material and desired finish, and Amana Tool® provides options ranging from single to multiple flutes to meet diverse project needs. In my shop I carry a variety of bits in all of the flute patterns for a great outcome of my jobs.
