Question: What is a sander backing pad?
Answer: A sander backing pad is a flat, usually circular attachment that connects to a power sander . It provides support and cushioning for the sandpaper or abrasive disc,and evenly distributes the pressure and improve sanding performance. The backing pad also helps secure the Hook and loop sandpaper in place during operation. Using the correct sander with the right sandpaper will make the project easier and the have the best outcome.
Question: How to sand intricate wood details?
Answer: To sand intricate wood details, use flexible sanding sponges, folded sandpaper, or specialty sanding tools like detail sanding sticks to reach into tight spaces and contours. Work gently to avoid damaging delicate carvings, and use fine-grit sandpaper for a smooth finish. For very fine details, try using a soft toothbrush or steel wool. For those tight corners I use the Fein AmpShare MultiMaster AMM700 for those tight corners .
Question: What PPE is required for sanding?
Answer: When sanding, it is important to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety goggles to protect your eyes from dust and debris, a dust mask or respirator to prevent inhalation of fine particles, and gloves to protect your hands. Additionally, wearing hearing protection and long sleeves is recommended if using power sanders. In my shop we use the Trend Airshield Pro Faceshield Dust protector and it works great besides having a great dust collecting system too.
