There are many types of machine vices, including plain vices, swivel vices, and universal vices. Plain vices hold workpieces securely in one line, swivel vices can rotate horizontally for angular operations, and universal vices allow movement in multiple directions for complex machining tasks. Each type is used based on the specific job requirements of the machining operation. In my shop I have many of these vises for the many operations going on there.
