Question: What size chamfer bit do I need?
Answer: The size of chamfer bit you need depends on the width and angle of the chamfer you want to create. The most common chamfer bits i use have angles like 45° or 22.5°, and have a bearing at the bottom. I measure the size of the chamfer that I want my workpiece to have and select a bit that matches both the angle and cutting depth , adding the size of the bearing which rides on the side of the workpiece.
Question: When to use chamfer bit?
Answer: I use a chamfer bit when I want to create a beveled edge on wood projects , typically at a 45-degree angle. It creates a decorative edge and removes sharp corners. Use a chamfer bit when you need a clean, angled finish rather than a rounded or square edge. Some chamfer bit include a bearing at the bottom for a perfect angle on your workpiece.
Question: Are CNC router bits the same as regular router bits?
Answer: CNC router bits and handheld / table router bits are similar in function but are made for these different machines. CNC router bits are made to withstand the higher speeds and precision of computer-controlled routers, often featuring stronger materials and specialized shapes. Regular router bits are typically used in handheld or table-mounted routers and may not be suitable for the demands of CNC machining. Never misuse a bit in the wrong machine , the outcome can be catastrophic for you and your machine. Quality and correct use of bits will always give you a great finished job/ project.
